Mind and Disposition.

Low-spirited, taciturn, melancholy ; doubts about his salvation.

Desponding, grieving mood.

Weeping, sad mood ; extremely sensitive.

Dread of men ; desires to be alone, or aversion to solitude.

[5] Extremely indifferent.

Headstrong, vehement, angry ; irritable and nervous.

Head.

Stupefying headache, with heat in the temples and of the ears ; dryness of the mouth and lips ; worse from 4 to 8 P.M., when rising up, and on lying down.

Pressing headache on the vertex ; worse from 4 to 8 P.M. from stooping, lying down, exertion of the mind, and followed by great weakness.

Tearing in the forehead or in the right side of the head, extending down to the neck, with tearing in the face, eyes, and teeth ; worse on raising oneself up, better on lying down and in the open air.

[10] Tension in the head ; worse at night when lying in bed, and on getting warm while walking in the open air ; better when walking slowly in the open air, from cold, and when uncovering the head.

Stitches the temples, mostly on the right side, from within without ; worse in the evening and at night when lying in bed, from heat and exertion of the mind ; better from cold and in the open air.

Congestion of blood to the head, especially in the morning when raising himself in bed.

Headache after breakfast.

Tearing, boring, and sensation of scraping on the external head, during the night.

[15] Eruption of crusts on the back part of the head, moist smelling fetid, easily bleeding, and burning ; after scratching, more moisture and increase of the crusts.

The hair becomes gray early.

Baldness ; the hair falls out, first on the vertex, later on the temples (after diseases of the abdominal viscera ; after parturition), with violent burning, scalding, itching of the scalp, especially on getting warm from exercise during the day.

Eyes.

Stitches and soreness in the eyes in the evening, when looking at the light.

Inflammation of the eyes, with lachrymation during the day and agglutination during the night.

[20] Photophobia.

Obscuration of sight, as from feathers before the eyes.

Perpendicular half sight.

Itching in the canthi.

Cold feeling in the eyes.

[25] Styes on the eyelids near the internal canthus.

Dim, hot eyes.

The eyes are wide open, insensible to light fixed.

Dryness of the eyes, in the evening.

Sparks before the eyes, in the dark.

Ears.

Over-sensitiveness of bearing.

[30] Music and sounds affect the ear painfully.

Roaring humming and whizzing in the ears.

Sensation as if hot blood rushed into the ears.

Congestion of blood to the ears.

Humid, suppurating scurfs on and behind the ears.

Ulceration and running of pug from the ears.

[35] Hardness of hearing ; the ears become closed with whizzing.

Singing in the ears, as from boiling water.

Nose.

Over-sensitiveness of the swell.

Bleeding from the nose, principally in the afternoon.

Scurf in the nose.

[40] Nightly closing of the nostril by pus.

Dryness of the nose.

Obstruction about the root of the nose ; can only breathe through the nose.

Dryness of the posterior nares.

Coryza, with acrid discharge, making the upper lips sore.

[45] Violent coryza, with swelling of the nose.

Fan-like motion of the nostrils.

Face.

Paleness of the face, with deep furrows, especially towards evening.

Earthy, yellow complexion, with deep furrows, blue circles around the eyes, and blue lips.

Flushes of heat in the face.

[50] Spasmodic twitching in the muscles of the face.

Eruption around the mouth.

A large ulcer on the vermilion border of the lower lip.

Soreness of the corners of the mouth.

Swelling of the upper lip.

[55] Eruptions on the face, humid and suppurating.

The lower jaw hangs down.

Freckles.

Swelling of the sub-maxillary glands.

Mouth and Throat.

The teeth are excessively painful on touching them.

[60] Yellow color of the teeth.

Toothache, with swelling of the cheek ; relieved by the heat of the bed, and from warm applications.

Fistula dentalis.

The gums bleed violently on being touched.

Gum-boils.

[65] Putrid smell from the mouth, especially in the morning when awaking.

Dryness of the mouth and tongue, without thirst.

Stiffness of the tongue and indistinct speech.

Vesicles on the tip of the tongue ; they feel scalded and raw.

Soreness of the tongue.

[70] Ulcers on and under the tongue.

Convulsions of the tongue.

The tongue is painful and swollen in different places (tubercles on the tongue).

The saliva becomes dry on the palate and lips, and is converted into tough mucus.

The posterior part of the mouth is covered by tough mucus.

[75] Dry and bitter mouth (in the morning).

Tongue dry ; becomes black and cracked.

Inflammation of the throat, with stitches on swallowing.

Swelling and suppuration of the tonsils.

The ulceration of the tonsils begins on the right side.

[80] The pharynx feels contracted, nothing can be swallowed.

Hawking up of bloody mucus.

Stomach and Abdomen.

Canine hunger.

Desire for sweet things.

Aversion to coffee and smoking, and to boiled, warm food.

[85] Bitter taste or acidity in the mouth after a meal.

Food tastes sour.

Bitterness in the mouth with nausea in the morning.

Nausea in the pharynx and stomach.

Nausea in the morning and when riding in a carriage.

[90] Vomiting of food and bile ; of coagulated blood and matter.

Vomiting between the chill and heat in intermittent fever.

Hiccough frequently, periodically.

Immediately after a (light) meal the abdomen is bloated, full, distended.

Accumulation of flatulence-incarcerated flatulence, the flatulence cannot pass, and causes much pain.

Gnawing, griping sensation in the region of the stomach.

Hernia (right side).

Palpitation of the heart during digestion.

Full, distended abdomen with cold feet.

Spasmodic contraction in the abdomen.

Stool and Anus.

[110] Constipation.

Hard stools with ineffectual desire to evacuate.

Desire for stool followed by painful constriction of the rectum or anus.

Small stool, with the sensation as if much remained behind, followed by excessive and painful accumulations of flatulence.

Haemorrhage from the rectum, even after a soft stool.

Feeling of fulness in the rectum continues after a copious stool.

[115] Contractive pain in the perinaeum, after scanty hard stool.

Stitches in the rectum.

Pale, putrid smelling stools.

Diarrhoea (during pregnancy), with earthly color of the face.

Itching and tension at the anus (in the evening in bed).

Urinary Organs.

Frequent desire to urinate, with discharge of large quantities of pale urine.

Red, sandy sediment in the urine ; greasy pellicle on the urine.

Involuntary micturition.

Discharge of blood from the bladder, painless.

Sexual Organs.

Shortness of breathing in children, especially during sleep.

Every exertion causes shortness of breathing.

Oppressed breathing, worse when walking in the open air.

Sensation as if there were too much mucus in the chest, with whizzing breathing in the day-time.

[160] Rattling in the chest.

Dry cough, day and night.

Cough at night which affects the stomach.

Cough, with expectoration through the day and without expectoration during the night.

Titillating cough caused by deep breathing.

[165] Cough, with copious purulent expectoration.

Cough with gray, salty-tasting expectoration, or expectoration of blood.

Hooping cough from irritation in the trachea as from fumes of sulphur, in the morning and during the day, with expectoration of fetid pus or of mucus streaked with blood.

Morning cough, with green expectoration.

Cough aggravated from 4 to 6 P.M., frequently on alternate days, from exertion, from stretching the arms out, stooping and lying down, when lying on the (left) side, from eating and drinking cold things, in the wind, or in the warm room.

The whole body feels bruised.

[225] Involuntary, alternate extension and contraction of the muscles in different parts of the body.

Epileptic spasms, with screaming, foam at the mouth, loss of consciousness, throws the aims and limbs about, great anguish about the heart, and imagines he would have to die.

Faintishness at certain hours of the day.

Sleep.

Sleepiness during the day, but cannot go to sleep at night, his mind is too active.

Restless sleep, with anxious dreams and frequent waking.

[230] Loud coughing during sleep ; screaming while asleep.

Sopor.

Starting when falling asleep.

Unable to find ease in any position.

Hunger at night when waking.

Fever.

Pulse only accelerated in the evening and afternoon.

Sensation as if the circulation stood still.

Chilliness in the afternoon from 4 to 8, with sensation as of numbness in the hands and feet.

Chilliness in the evening in bed, preventing sleep.

Chilliness followed by perspiration without heat after the chill.

Chills and heat alternating.

Want of natural heat.

Flushes of heat over the whole body, mostly towards evening, with frequent drinking of small quantities at a time ; constipation and increased micturition.

[245] Heat of one (left) foot with coldness of the other (right) foot.

Violent perspiration during the day from the least exertion.

Night and morning sweats, often with coldness of the face.

Night-sweats, clammy.

The perspiration is frequently cold, smelling sour, or offensive, or smelling like onions, or bloody.

[250] Intermittent fever. Nausea and vomiting and then chilliness, followed by perspiration (without previous heat).

Chilliness in the evening, when in bed till midnight, this is followed by heat, in the morning sour-smelling perspiration.

Great heat and redness of the cheeks, alternating with chilliness.

Shaking chill 7 P.M., and great coldness as if lying in ice, with traction through the whole body, upon waking up from sleep, which is full of dreams, covered with perspiration, perspiration is followed by violent thirst.

Tertian fever, with sour vomiting (worse between chill and fever) ; the chills are followed by bloatedness of the face and hands.

[255] Typhus fever (with threatening paralysis of the brain).

Skin.

Biting, itching when becoming warm through the day.

Humid, suppurating tetters, full of deep rhagades and covered with thick crusts.

Soreness of children, the sore places are humid.

Ulcers, at night, with tearing and itching pains, burning when touched. (Mercurial ulcers) ; bleeding and burning when dressing the otherwise painless ulcer.

[260] Blood-boils (periodically).

Inflammation of the bones, with pains at night.

Softening of the bones.

Caries.

Fistulous ulcers, with hard, red-shining, everted edges, and inflammatory swelling of the affected parts.

[265] Glandular swellings.

Chilblains.

Arthritic nodosities.

Freckles.

Liver spots (abdomen).

[270] Dropsical swellings.

Conditions.

Great disposition to get cold.

Great desire for the open air or entire aversion to it.

Aggravation from 4 to 8 P.M., when everything is better, with the exception of the debility.

While at rest the debility is mostly felt, but there is also great aversion to exercise.

[275] Aggravation on lying down, while sitting, when rising from a seat and when beginning to walk (the stiffness), after eating and having satisfied one's appetite, after eating oysters, from salt food, from cold food or drink, from wet (warm) poultices, from pressure of the clothes, from strong smells, while urinating.

Amelioration, on getting cold, from uncovering oneself, after rising from a seat and when continuing to walk, from warm food and drink.

It is not advisable to begin the treatment of a chronic disease with Lycopodium, it is better to give first another not antipsoric remedy.

Lachesis and Lycopodium follow well one after another.

Lycopodium follows well after Pulsatilla or Calcarea.
