Mind and Disposition.

Sadness despondency.

Excessive nervousness, great excitability, especially after the abuse of mercury.

Taciturn, disinclined to communicate any thing.

[5] Irritable disposition.

Vexed at trifles.

Attacks of rage, despair, with cursing and maledictions.

Head.

Vertigo, especially in the morning, obliging one to lie down.

Great weakness of memory, with aversion to mental exertion.

[10] Headache in the morning on awaking.

Headache, with nausea and vomiting.

Stitches in the head, compelling one to lie down big disturbing the sleep.

Congestion of blood to the head, with much heat in it.

Pressing headache from wit out to within, with tension extending to the eyes, with nausea ; aggravated by noise, relieved on lying down or when riding in a carriage.

[15] Great sensitiveness of the head to the rattling of wagons, especially over the paved streets, and against stepping hard.

Humid, stinging-itching eruption on the vertex and on the temples, extending down to the whiskers, bleeding very easily on scratching it, and feeling very sore when lying on it.

Inflammatory swellings on the scalp, suppurating or becoming carious ; most painful from external pressure or when lying on them.

Great sensitiveness of the head to touch and pressure, even to the pressure of the bat ; worse in the, evening and on the places on which one lies.

The hair falls off, with humid eruptions, paining as if splinters were thrust in it, or when touched ; also on the genitals, after the abuse of mercury ; with nervous headaches, great debility and emaciation.

[20] Pain in the bones of the skull, with the sensation as if they were constricted by a tape ; worse in the evening and at night ; better from cold air and while riding in a carriage.

Eyes.

Eyes dull and sunken.

Pressure and stinging in the eyes.

Inflammation of the eyes, especially after suppressed syphilis or after the abuse of mercury.

Spots on the cornea.

[25] Paralysis of the upper eyelids.

Black spots flying before the eyes.

Double vision ; short-sightedness.

Fistula lachrymalis.

Ears.

Stitches in the (right) ear.

[30] Suppuration of the ears ; discharge of pus from the ears.

Hardness of hearing, especially from induration and swelling of the tonsils (after the abuse of mercury).

Cracking in the ears when masticating.

Beating and humming in the ears.

Echo in the ears of one's own speech.

[35] Caries of the mastoid process.

Steatoma at the lobe.

Nose.

Stitch in the nose, as from splinters, when touching it.

The tip of the nose is red and covered with scurfy vesicles.

Itching herpes on the wings of the nose.

[40] Bleeding of the face ; when weeping ; in the morning the blood is black, clotted.

Disagreeable smell in the nose on inhaling air.

Fetid, yellow discharge from the nose ; fetid smell from the nose.

Condylomatous excrescences on the nose.

Soreness, burning and scurf in the nose.

[45] Unsuccessful attempt to sneeze.

The nose is dry and stuffed up ; complete obstruction of the nose ; water is dropping out.

Dry coryza, with dryness of the throat and nose ; the wings of the nose are inflamed and swollen.

Fluent coryza, with obstruction of the nose ; the mucus is only discharged through the posterior nares.

Coryza, with dry cough, headache, hoarseness and stitches in the throat.

Face.

[50] Pale face with sunken eyes.

Yellow complexion or yellowness around the eyes, with red cheeks.

Dark yellow, almost brown, complexion.

Bloatedness around the eyes on waking early.

Swelling of the cheeks.

[55] Pimples on the face, forehead and temples.

Black pores in the face.

Scurfy pustules on the face with large red areola.

Swelling of the lips.

Lips cracked.

[60] Ulceration of the corners of the mouth and of the lips.

Ulcers in the red part of the lips.

Blood-boils on the chin.

Painful swelling of the sub-maxillary glands.

Mouth and Throat.

Pulsating or stinging pain in the teeth, mostly in the evening, in bed, or during the night.

[65] The teeth become yellow or loose.

Pain in hollow teeth.

The teeth feel elongated.

Gums white, swollen, bleeding.

Stomacace.

[70] Ulcers in the mouth and fauces, with pricking pains.

Putrid, cadaverous smell from the mouth.

Great dryness in the mouth, with thirst.

Ptyalism ; also with ulcers on the fauces, or in attacks of fever.

Mercurial and syphilitic ulcers in the mouth and fauces, with pricking pain.

[75] Inflammation of the throat ; with pricking pains also after the abuse of mercury, or with burning and soreness.

Painful soreness of the soft palate, the tongue and inside gums, with stinging pain and ulceration of the corners of the mouth.

Great dryness and heat in the throat.

The tongue is very sensitive ; even mild food causes a smarting sensation.

White, dry tongue, in the morning.

[80] The tongue is coated green (with ptyalism).

Stomach and Abdomen.

Violent thirst : in suppuration of the lungs, in the morning violent thirst.

Bitter taste after eating.

Sour taste, with burning in the throat.

Longing for fat, herring, chalk, lime, earth.

[85] Aversion to meat, to bread, and when eating it, sour taste and vomiting.

During and after eating, perspiration.

Milk is not digested.

After eating, fulness in the stomach, debility, and, from the least exertion, heat, perspiration and palpitation of the heart.

Bitter and sour vomiting, with much eructation.

[90] Pain in the cardiac orifice on swallowing food.

Stitches in the pit of the stomach.

Colic from cold.

Cutting and pinching in the abdomen, especially in the morning in bed.

On touching the abdomen, stinging pain, soreness.

[95] Incarcerated flatulency in the upper part of the abdomen, and especially morning and evening.

Inguinal hernia also of children.

Swelling and suppuration of the inguinal glands.

Stool and Anus.

Constipation ; stool dry, difficult, irregular.

Diarrhoea ; discharges putrid or of mucus, fetid and undigested.

[100] Dysenteric, bloody stools, with tenesmus.

Before the stool colic ; after the stool nervousness and debility.

Itching and burning or stinging at the anus and rectum.

Humid moisture at the anus.

Varices of the anus, swollen, burning and bleeding after every evacuation.

Urinary Organs.

[105] Incontinence of urine.

Frequent desire to urinate, with a scanty discharge of dark-brown, bad-smelling urine.

The urine is cold when it passes.

The urine has an intolerably offensive, strong smell, or smells like horse urine.

While urinating, smarting and burning in the urethra.

[110] Discharges from the urethra of mucus, or of bloody mucus, or of pus.

Ulcers in the urethra.

Sexual Organs.

Men. Itching at the genitals.

Swelling, inflammation and phymosis of the prepuce.

Chancre-like ulcers on the prepuce and on the corona glandis, with pricking stinging pains.

[115] Sycotic condylomata.

Red, scurfy spots on the corona glandis.

Deep ulcer on the glans, with elevated, lead-colored, extremely sensitive edges.

Inflammatory swelling of the testicles, with painful drawing in the spermatic cords, extending into the abdomen.

Small, itching vesicles on the prepuce, bursting soon and forming a scurf.

[120] Painful spasmodic erections at night, or entire want of sexual desire and erections.

Great falling off of the hair of the genital organs.

Women. Soreness in the genitals.

Ulcers in the vagina, burning and itching.

Menses too early, or suppressed menstruation.

[125] During the menses colic and pressing and bearing down on the genitals.

Leucorrhoea ; acrid, offensive, like brown water.

Respiratory Organs.

Scratching and stinging in the larynx, with hoarseness, especially when talking for a long time.

Hoarseness, with coryza, cough, and stinging, pain in the throat.

Bronchitis.

[130] Violent, shaking, barking cough, caused by tickling in the larynx and pit of the stomach, with expectoration during the day of blood mixed with clots, or of yellow, acrid pus, tasting bitter, sour or salt, and of offensive smell.

Dry barking cough in the evening, after lying down.

Phthisis pulmonalis (after Kali carb.).

When coughing, stitches in the small of the back.

Shortness of breath ; panting breathing during work.

[135] Dyspnoea, palpitation of the heart and anguish when going up stairs.

Cramp-like contractive pain in the chest.

Stitches in the chest ; right side and scapula.

Soreness in the chest when breathing and coughing.

Congestion to the chest, with anxiety, heat and palpitation of the heart.

[140] Nodosities in the mammae, or atrophy of the mammae.

Back and Neck.

Stitches in and between the shoulder-blades, with stiffness of the neck.

Pain in the back and small of the back from cold.

Swelling of the glands on the neck and of the axilla.

Extremities.

Upper. Rheumatic pains in the arms, especially in the forearms and fingers.

[150] Weakness and trembling of the forearms and fingers.

Cold hands.

Chilblains on the hands and fingers.

Herpes between the fingers.

Swelling of the fingers, especially the joints, with stinging pain.

[155] White spots on the finger-nails.

Lower. Sensation as if the hip were sprained with limping.

Rheumatic pains in the legs and feet.

Restlessness in the limbs in the evening.

Pain in the patella, impeding walking ; stillness and stitches in the knee.

[160] Violent cramp in the calf at night and when walking after sitting.

Foot-sweat very offensive, or suppressed.

Chilblains on the toes.

Generalities.

Pricking pains as from splinters especially from contact.

Rheumatic pains in the limbs (from taking cold).

[165] Cracking in the joints.

Hysteria.

Epileptic attacks.

Great debility, with heaviness and trembling of the limbs, especially in the morning.

Syphilis (secondary).

[170] Sycotic condylomata ; and sycosis.

Sleep.

Sleepiness during the day from debility, with vertigo.

During the sleep, pain and starts.

Difficulty of going to sleep in the evening ; and in the morning one wakens too early or too late, and with great difficulty.

Fever.

Pulse very irregular : one normal beat is often followed by two small rapid beats, -the fourth entirely intermits ; alternate hard, rapid and small beats.

[175] Chilliness mostly in the afternoon and evening, and after lying down.

Chilliness, with internal heat at the same time.

Chilliness in the morning in bed, after previous heat.

Continuous chilliness.

Heat, especially on the hands and face.

[180] Flushes of heat with perspiration on the hands.

At night, internal, dry heat, with inclination to uncover oneself.

Heat, with perspiration and debility after eating.

Perspiration every night, or on alternate nights ; the most profuse on the side on which one lies.

Perspiration smelling offensive or sour, or like horse urine.

[185] Intermittent fever. Chilliness in the afternoon (an hour and a half, while in the open air), followed by dry heat when in bed, accompanied by all sorts of fancies while in a state of half waking, without sleep ; sleep and perspiration only come on towards morning.

Chilliness in the afternoon, for an hour ; then heat over the whole body, for a quarter of an hour ; afterwards profuse perspiration for two hours over the whole body ; there is no thirst either in the cold or the hot stage.

Skin.

Dryness of the skin.

Itching nettle-rash, in the open air, even in the face.

Black pores.

[190] Brown-red spots and dark freckles on the skin.

Painful chilblains and corns.

Frost-bitten, inflamed, itching limbs, from a slight degree of cold, with cracked skin.

Large blood-boils.

Violently bleeding ulcers or wounds, with stinging pain, as from splinters, or with burning, especially when they are touched.

[195] Ulcers, with bloody, ichorous matter.

Mercurial ulcers.

Carious ulcers.

Cicatrices pain on the change of weather.

Inflammation swelling and suppuration of the glands.

[200] Painfulness and inflammation of the bones. -Caries.

Conditions.

Especially suitable, after alkalies, for lean persons with dark complexion, black hair and eyes.

Pains on change of temperature and of the weather.

Great inclination to take cold.

The pains are felt during sleep.

[205] Aggravation in the evening and at night, on waking, on rising from a seat ; from touching the parts.

Amelioration from eructations ; while riding in a carriage.
